Off-road trails
Single- and double-track wooded trails abound in Southeastern Ohio. Mountain bikes are the machines of choice for this terrain. For local off-road riding, you may want to change your tire tread depending on how muddy the trails are (and we suggest that if they’re muddy enough for you to do damage, it might be a good day to volunteer some trail maintenance time instead). If you want a cushy ride that dampens the rocks, roots and sticks you’ll be rolling over, be sure to get a mountain bike with a suspension fork. If you like going over to West Virginia to whoop it up on trails like Red Run at Slatyfork, a high-quality full suspension ride may be worth saving up for. Regardless, if you’re sure you want to log your miles in the woods, a mountain bike is the way to go. And if you’re looking for information about mountain bike trails in the Southeastern Ohio-West Virginia-Virginia region, ask the staff at Athens Bicycle. We’re just plain addicted to this stuff.
