BMX / freestyle bikes
Highly popular, BMX and freestyle bikes are made for two very different purposes (even though they look a lot alike). BMX stands for bicycle motocross — a circuit race in which cyclists compete on a dirt track with jumps, whoop-de-doos and fast, tight corners. Freestyle bikes are made for doing tricks — their handlebars can whirl around 360 degrees, they have pegs on the axles so that riders can deftly maneuver the bikes in unconventional ways, and have heavy frames meant for standing up to heavy use. Many people buy BMX and freestyle bikes with no intentions of racing them or doing tricks, because both bike styles are fun for cruising over to a friend’s house, to class or around town.
