Race to the Hills

Mountain Bike Race at Lake Hope State Park

For the second year in a row, the Race to the Hills will earn you points for the Ohio Mountain Bike Championship Series AND the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association Points Series! Sponsored by Athens Bicycle, Athens Bicycle Club (ABC), OMBC, Ohio State Parks and Pepsi, this year’s race features a loop lovingly hand built by ABC members. There also will be a kids race and fun ride.

Race Sponsors

As part of OMBC’s “Get Fit Naturally at Ohio State Parks” program, ABC will host a guided, noncompetitive fun ride, featuring sections of the race course. Classes and Points: This is a dual points race – racers will earn points in the Ohio Mountain Bike Championship (OMBC) series and in the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association (WVMBA) series. On race day awards will be given based on OMBC class structure. OMBC and WVMBA points will be awarded to each racer based on each respective series’ class structure. Course: The courses for all classes will be exactly the same as 2006. For complete course information click here.

Parking Information: Parking will be available for racers, volunteers, spectators and fun ride participants along Long Ridge Road. Watch for signs along State Route 278 directing you to turn onto Irish Ridge Road and eventually onto Long Ridge Road. Park your vehicle on Long Ridge Road; the start/finish area is a short walk (or ride) from there (follow the signs).

Fun Ride Details

• Date: Sunday, August 5, 2007
• Time: Arrive ready to ride by 9:45 a.m. The ride will start at 10 a.m. sharp. Allow 10 minutes to park and walk to the start/finish area.
• Place: The ride will start at the start/finish area. Park on Long Ridge Road (follow signs from State Route 278), then follow signs directing you to the start/finish area.
• Cost: Free!
• Helmets required

Kids Race Details

• Date: Sunday, August 5, 2007
• Time: Kids race start time is 11:30 a.m.
• Place: The race will start at the start/finish area. Park on Long Ridge Road (follow signs from State Route 278), then follow signs directing you to the start/finish area. Allow 10 minutes to park and walk to the start/finish area.
• Cost: A $5 donation is encouraged.
• Helmets are required

Race Details

• Date: Sunday, August 5, 2007
• Registration: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the start/finish area. Park on Long Ridge Road (follow signs from State Route 278), then follow signs directing you to the start/finish area. Allow 10 minutes to park and walk to the start/finish area.
• Race start: 1 p.m.
• Registration fee: $25 earns you OMBC points and WVMBA points
• Distances: Approximately 10 miles for beginners, 17 miles sport, 30 miles expert
• Helmets required
