The
Thunder Bunny’s
Terror = Fun, Fun, Fun
 Twenty-five
racers participated in the first-ever Thunder Bunny’s Terror
time trial race, held on the new Thunder Bunny trail at Strouds
Run State Park near Athens on Saturday, Oct. 29. Nearly every racer
was dressed to impress, and everyone came well prepared to get
scared. Many thanks go to race organizer Joey "Wolfman" Boyle
for creating this fun event, and to Trek Bicycles for supplying
the prize table.
For those of you who don’t know, Athens is even more of a
party town than usual on Halloween weekend, playing host to tens
of thousands
of Halloween revelers on the Saturday of Halloween weekend every
year. The Thunder Bunny was a great way to start of an evening
of Halloween
fun.
The course was in beautiful shape, with colorful leaves covering
most of the two-mile trail. Along with logovers, a few rocks, dips,
gentle
climbs and switchbacks, racers experienced a ghost, giant spiders
and frightening men (some dead, one alive) along the course. Even
the finish
line was scary – a bridge across a dry creekbed with a troll
underneath.
Racers seemed to think it was loads of fun to get spooked by people
jumping out from behind trees while they were trying to ride as hard
as they could. It was an all-new kind of heart-pounding exercise.
Everyone enjoyed beverages, candy and a campfire at the finish line,
before heading back into town to various parties.
