3rd Annual Gravel Rouser Classic, March 16-19, 2006
Day Two: Grab & Git City Scramble
Some Athens cyclists kicked of their St. Patrick's Day fun with a scavenger hunt by bike around the city of Athens on March 17. Racers had to find five checkpoints and make it to the finish line with items proving they had made it to the checkpoints.
In the men's race, Ryan Curtiss edged out two-time past winner Craig Watson to take the win, followed by the fast-riding and fast-talking Eric Cutlip of Asheville, N.C. Watson rounded out the podium in third place.
In the ladies race, medical student Krista Duval used her smarts to edge out seven other contenders to stand on top of the recently constructed Gravel Rouser podium. Athens ladies Kelly Shaw and Mary Reed took second and third, respectively.
At the O'Betty's
checkpoint, we arranged for a special guest --
Lance Armstrong -- to be on hand for photo opportunities.
