Join Athens Bicycle
to Preride the Challenge at Mountwood Course
If you're considering doing this year's Simonton Windows Challenge at Mountwood mountain bike race near Parkersburg, W.V., join Athens Bicycle in attending a race course preview on Sunday, April 25. The River Valley Mountain Bike Association hosts the Challenge at Mountwood and will have the course laid out for the preview.
Volunteers from RVMBA will be on hand to show everyone the course of their choice, whether beginner, sport or expert. Representatives of Athens Bicycle will ride with you as well, and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about what mountain bike racing is all about.
The Mountwood preride will start at 1 p.m. on April 25. Arrive between noon and 1 p.m. so you have plenty of time to get ready, get a map of the course and ask questions. The course will likely not be completely marked on that day, so expect to ride with the group at a social pace or navigate on your own with a map provided by RVMBA.
RVMBA builds and maintains trails in the City of Marietta, Wayne National Forest, Mountwood Park and North Bend State Park. The group hosts weekly and monthly trail rides plus numerous monthly trail maintenance sessions. RVMBA provides education about environmentally and socially responsible mountain biking, promotes responsible mountain biking opportunities throughout West Virginia and Ohio, and works for increased environmental protection of the area’s trails. RVMBA has presented the Challenge at Mountwood since 1995. This year's race will be held on Sunday, May 2. For full details on the race, visit iplayoutside.com.
