Say
Hello to ... Strawberry
It's been
months in the making, and the wait was well worth it. Pete bought
his new car, Strawberry, way back in the spring. It's a 1987 Chevy
Suburban. His goal was to put a rack on it that would allow us
to carry a Suburbanlooad of cyclists to area races and cycling
events.
And who better
to make the rack than our buddy, Joey Boyle. Pete described his vision
to Joey, and Joey sourced the materials and constructed the rack.
Months of work
culminated in a late-night frenzy of grinding, welding and fitting
this past Saturday night. The goal was to load
the rack up the next morning to take Athens Bicycle Mountain
Bike Team members to the Bob
Evans Farmhand XC race in Rio Grande.
Shop mechanic Andy James helped Joey with the last-minute welding.
The project ran so late that I bottomed out and had to go home before
I got to take pictures of the actual installation (sorry).
On Sunday morning
when I awoke and peeped out the window, there was Strawberry,
piled high with steel and 12 bike-tights. I hopped out for a quick
ride
and didn't get to witness the actual loading of the vehicle, but
after my ride I drove out to Bob Evans Farm to see the team and Strawberry
in action. It was a great day at the races, and the rack worked like
a charm. Thanks, Joey!
BTW, if you've
never been to the Farmhand XC, you should add it to your race schedule
for next year. The Ohio Valley Bicycle Club does a great job with
the race, and they LOVE hosting racers.
