4th Annual Gravel Rouser Classic

March 15-18, 2007
Athens, Ohio

Come out for some early spring riding and racing. To check out a recap of the 2006 Gravel Rouser, click here.

Last year we offered a bounty of $10 to anyone who could beat Craig Watson in the Grab & Git, and that proved an effective means of heating up the competition. (Ryan Curtiss took home a Hamilton.) So this year we're offering a $10 bounty to anyone who can beat Brian Matter, fair and square, in any of the weekend's events. Brian, we think you're great and want you to keep participating in the 'Rouser, but jeez, the domination is getting ridiculous. Can anyone help us out here?

Thursday, March 15: Sundown Downhill Time Trial
Start Time: 4:30 p.m., Strouds Run State Park Dam Parking Lot (Route 50)
More new trail for 2007! See how fast you can make it down the hill. Race down approximately 1.5 miles of singletrack (and haul your bike and yourself up to the start).

Friday: Grab & Git City Scramble
Start Time: 5 p.m., Athens Bicycle
Take a beatin’ from Athens brick to find five checkpoints within the city limits, then git yer ass to the finish cuz it’s a party! This event has almost as much to do with luck as it has to do with cycling prowess. Basically, it’s a crapshoot, so forget the performance anxiety and come join the fun! Food and beverages at the finish line.

Saturday: Gravel Rouser
Start Time: 10 a.m., 77 Hudson Ave.* Click here to download directions to the meeting place (PDF, 731 K)
Group ride past exploded house trailers and violent pets to Lake Hope State Park. Option to race a fine piece of trail at the park before heading home. 40 miles round trip plus 10-mile singletrack race. Either race or spectate before riding home. Course will be marked and maps provided; ride at your own pace. Snacks will be provided at Lake Hope State Park, and food and beverages will be available at the end of the day.

*Parking information for Hudson Ave.: At the end (dead-end) of Hudson Ave. on your right there is a gravel parking lot and large white building. Park in the gravel lot on the side of the building *without* blocking the city alley or the building entrance. Note that the city alley has two access points -- one on the side of the building and one at the back. Don't block either or the city might tow your car!

Sunday: Coolville Ridge Cooldown

Start Time: 10 a.m., 14555 Coolville Ridge Click here for directions to the meeting place (PDF, 771K)
Three-lap circuit race, about 5 miles each lap. Unimproved gravel roads -- the pick of the litter!
