2007 Gravel Rouser Classic Event Recap

Stage 2: Grab N Git City Scramble

This year's Grab N Git City Scramble was hotly contested and ended with a dramatic podium ceremony featuring a dejected defending champion, a green poodle and a very surprised first-place finisher.

Last year's winner, Ryan Curtiss, was the first to cross the finish line. But a twist of fate kept him from the podium. The Grab N Git always includes randomly asigned time bonuses and penalties. A 5-minute penalty on Curtiss, combined with a 9-minute time bonus for Tony Bowie, moved Curtiss from first place to third. Out-of-town fast guys Brian Matter and Tristan Schouten couldn't make it into the top three even with the help of 2-minute time bonuses. It was clear that knowledge of our city's streets is critical in this race.

In the women's race, defending champion Krista Duval kept nine contending women at bay to take the first-place title for the second year in a row.

Racers enjoyed trips to a generous prize table provided by Trek and Athens Bicycle. Racers also enjoyed trips to a refreshing keg of Blue Moon Belgian White provided by our good friends at Kerr Distributing.

Scroll down for results and photos. Thanks go to Tom Chambers, Kate Erlewine and Brian Matter for the photos.
