Athens Bicycle Sponsors Mountain Bike Team

Here's what it looks like when the Athens Bicycle Mountain Bike Team unloads the big blue van and sets up the gun show.

Athens Bicycle is pleased to announce that the shop will sponsor a mountain bike team for the 2006 racing season.

We're proud to have selected an amazing stable of riders representing a wide range of ages and ability levels. From high school students to high school teachers, this team has it covered. Team members will compete in races that count toward the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association Point Series (www.wvmba.com) as well races that count toward the Ohio Mountain Bike Championship series (www.ombc.net).

The goals of the team are:

• To support grass-roots level mountain bike racing
• To build camaraderie
• To encourage people to challenge themselves
• To have fun

The first race of the season is on April 23 at Mountwood Park just outside of Parkersburg, W.V. Most team members will debut their racing powers on that day. Other season highlights will include 24 Hours of Big Bear in June and our local event -- the Race to the Hills -- at Lake Hope State Park in August.
