Kerry had traveled to the race in the Seven Cycles van and was camping with Skip Brown, who has won the SM100 twice before, once the overall and once the singlespeed class. I decided to take a picture of one of his "grips" -- a thin wrap of cloth tape on the bare bar. Also, no gloves and a rigid fork. And V-brakes. Yikes.
