Recent storms have done significant damage to trails at nearby Strouds Run State Park. Downed trees, uprooted briars, and sticks and branches cover most of the trails, making them relatively impassable. Members of Athens Bicycle Club, Friends of Strouds Run State Park and Athens Trails will host a trail work session this Sunday, Feb. 22, to start repairs. As local cyclist Jim Schulz put it, "The trails are in such bad shape it's not really worth riding them, so you might as well come help fix them." Please consider volunteering some of your weekend recreation time to fixing our wonderful trail system.

Time: 10 a.m.
Meeting Place: The first parking lot on your right after entering Strouds Run State Park (Thunderbunny / Pioneer Cemetery trailhead)
What to Bring: Favorite hand tool that cuts wood, sturdy work boots and gloves, snacks and water. If you don't have a trail tool, come with good gloves and you can haul away deadfall.
Knowing in advance how many people will attend the work party will be helpful for triage, so RSVP by 5 p.m. on Saturday (2/21) to Jim Schulz at 592-2023 or jschulz@columbus.rr.com.
