Nonstop Action

It's busy, busy, busy all over town. Students are everywhere, fantastic weather is encouraging lots of bike rides, polo games are heating up (check it out, Tuesdays, 7 p.m., West End Ballfields), and fall is just around the corner.

There had been some long faces around the shop because the Columbus Fall Challenge had been cancelled, but now it is again on the calendar (Sept. 29-30)! This is a super hilly, two-day double century, and a great way to top off a season of SE Ohio road riding. So if your legs aren't ready, you still have three weeks to get yourself in shape.

This coming weekend, the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association Point Series wraps up with the Dirt Derby championship race in Huntington, with Sir Mac BoYes in charge of festivities. For those of you who really want to ride your butts off, consider the Dirt Bag Cup, Mr. BoYes' three-day cycling extravaganza. I (barely) completed last year's DBC, and it's definitely not for the fainthearted. The DBC features an evening time trial on Friday, an all-day off-road ride on Saturday with several timed sections, and the WVMBA championship race on Sunday. No wonder I woke up with a 103.8 fever the following Monday!

Starting next week, Pete is going to host a Wednesday evening mountain bike ride, leaving the shop at 6:15 p.m. All levels are welcome. If you're a hammerhead, plan on this being an easier ride and don't get impatient at intersections. Helmets required, bring water, tools, snack, etc.

Next weekend, enjoy some Ohio racing down on the farm at the Farmhand XC at Bob Evans Farms in Rio Grande. Athens Bicycle team members had a blast at this race last year and some squad members will be making the trip again this year.

Enjoy!
