Trail Report: Last weekend I had the chance to ride the Blackwater Canyon Trail and a little bit of the Allegheny Highlands Trail between Thomas and Parsons, W.V. The 10-mile BCT section is super rough as rail trails go, featuring single-track in some sections and fist-sized gravel in others. There are some amazing views of the Blackwater Canyon, waterfalls, coke ovens and other cool scenery. The trail is completely downhill from Thomas to Hendricks, W.V., where it turns into the paved (and flat) AHT and continues on for three miles to Parsons and beyond. We turned around at Parsons and climbed back up the canyon. It's a gentle climb that requires constant but not-too-taxing work. This scenic trip is rugged enough that paved-road riders might be jostled around too much, but in my opinion it's worth the jostling to see the views that can't be had by any means other than dragging your butt out there!

Cannondale Demos This Week!!

Athens Bicycle will soon add Cannondale bikes to its lineup, and to kick off this new relationship we'll host Cannondale's demo van Oct. 9 and 11 in Athens. It also will head to Mountwood Park outside of Parkersburg, W.V., on Oct. 10. The van is stocked with road bikes and mountain bikes available for free test rides.
