One
of the most exciting things that happened at Trek World
(Trek's annual trade show for its dealers) was that
Trek President John
Burke introduced a new bike advocacy program, One
World, Two Wheels. For
every full-suspension bike sold, Trek will donate $10
to the International Mountain Bicycling Association,
for a minimum of $600,000 over the next three years.
Additionally, Trek
will
donate $1
per
helmet sold, for a minimum of $1 million
over the next three years,
to the League of American Bicyclists'
Bicycle Friendly
Communities program, which recognizes
municipalities that actively support bicycling. The goal?
To increase U.S. trips by bike from 1 percent to 5
percent by Trek World 2017. After John announced this,
he surprised us by informing us
that
we would be traveling by bicycle from the convention
center to that evening's activity
(a kickball competition). Yep, all 1,000 of us Trek
dealers rode Trek Limes through Madison, Wis., at parade
pace (with a permit, of course). It was pretty awesome.
We'll keep you posted on details of this exciting new
initiative.
In
other news, I had a great time at the Wild 100. Click
