No Wheelies This Time

The last time I watched Floyd Landis warm up he was doing wheelies in the Hocking College parking lot before scorching course records at the now-defunct Didi Mau Classic mountain bike race. Who would have guessed that young, talented racer would turn into a world-class road cyclist? These days Floyd warms up next to his fancy Phonak camper, with fences keeping his fans at bay. Above he is warming up for the Amgen Tour of California prologue, a time trial through the streets of beautiful San Francisco. Racers started at the Ferry Building and climbed up to Coit Tower, under the California sun. I was lucky enough to catch the first two stages of the tour. Other trip highlights included getting snowed on while riding Mt. Tam, checking out the Hoo Koo E Koo trail, and bumping into Gary Fisher during a ride. Oh, and the German beer and food at Suppenkuche. More Tour of California pix to come in a few days.
