Bike Rides Make Us Smile

This past weekend was a great one for bicycling in Athens. Saturday featured the AM Rotary Club's Quilt Barn Ride, proving once again that a forecast for 80% chance of rain is a bunch of hooey. Elizabeth and I added a bonus loop (with bonus quilt barns!) to make it an even 100. We followed that up with a girls ride on the Thunderbunny Sunday morning. Now it's time to begin final preparations for the Race to the Hills. I'm in need of volunteers, so if you're not planning on racing and want to be part of the action, drop me a line at ridebikes@athensbicycle.com.

Upcoming Events

Aug. 6: Race to the Hills
Zaleski, Ohio
Athens Bicycle, the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association and the Ohio Mountain Bike Championship Series will host the fourth annual Race to the Hills at Lake Hope State Park. Mountain bikers of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to try this fun event. Click here for more information. Interested in volunteering? E-mail mer@athensbicycle.com.

Aug. 12: Wild 100
Slatyfork, W.V.
We love this crazy backcountry scramble, where course length is determined by your route selection and mapreading skills. Approximate course length is 100K, but distance sometimes ranges from 55 miles to 85 miles. Rocks, roots, scenic views, mud and big hills are highlights during the event; food and beer are highlights afterward. Visit Elk River Touring Center's site for more information.
