University graduate student Pat Hanlin
stopped in the other day with a small
box containing what was left of his bike. Athens made
national news when an OU police officer
saw a sticker on Pat’s
bike that said “This Bike is a Pipe Bomb.” After a few
police departments and a bomb squad declared
that the bike was, in fact, just a bike
and the sticker was a band name, charges were
brought against Pat for inciting panic.
Since then the charges have been dropped
but Pat’s down tube
is still being held as evidence. Fortunately
Pat is working on getting a new ride together. No matter
which side of the fence you are on there
is no denying that when a bike meets
the Jaws of Life, the bike loses big time.

Meet at the Beacon School parking lot on Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m. Bring
